"The trouble with a poet is how do you know it's deceased? Try the priest."

Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, 2007. Three and a Half Stars.

Surprisingly great!! Dark, twisted musical! Talented actors! Perfect visuals! And lovely, lovely gore!

Imagine seeing this on Broadway, must've been awesome!

I saw Sweeney Todd on stage, not on Broadway but in Boston in the 80s, with Angela Lansbury and (I think) George Hearn. It was spectacular.
Here's the kicker: Stephen Sondheim's music is very hard to sing. Much as I like Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, they ain't got the chops. I had to stop watching when Alan Rickman started singing. He's one of my favorite actors, but couldn't they have got Mark Knopfler or soembody to dub in his singing part?
